Course Description

This course is part of ASSP’s five-course Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Management Systems Certificate program led by renowned experts. You can earn the certificate by completing any three courses in our program, but we recommend you complete all five courses to earn our advanced certificate and get the most value for you and your organization. Note: This is the third course in this program. We strongly encourage you to complete this course as per the planned sequence, although it’s not required.

Elevate your outcomes with our course on ANSI/ASSP Z10, one of the leading voluntary consensus standards on occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS). We will share practical insights about effective management systems with an emphasis on increasing collaboration and optimizing resources in any business or industry. You will come away equipped with the knowledge and skills you need to integrate an OHSMS into your business processes to proactively manage occupational risks. Through real-world examples and practical exercises, you will develop a road map to transition from a fragmented approach to a strategic systems mindset. You’ll also gain unique perspectives from the new view of safety and human and organizational performance (HOP) principles embedded in ANSI/ASSP Z10.

Instruction Method

Online-Instructor-Led: As a virtual learner, you’ll receive all the benefits of face-to-face instruction, eliminate travel cost and time, while learning in a structured way whether at work, at home or at another convenient location. To participate fully, you will need a computer with audio/video capability and a reliable internet connection.

During this two-week online course, you will connect with your peers in group discussions, participate in interactive learning activities, review instructional videos and complete assignments.

Each Wednesday throughout the duration of the course, your instructor will hold a 90-minute online meeting from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. CT. These meetings are designed to facilitate group work, share expert knowledge, answer questions, provide feedback and offer active learning support.

Amy_timmerman

Amy Timmerman, M.S., CSP, CHES, is president of AT Safety, a consulting firm that specializes in management systems. She has held safety leadership positions in global companies like GE, Siemens and Stryker. Timmerman is chair of the ANSI/ASSP Z10 Committee and a member of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO Project Committee 283 that publishes ISO 45001, the international standard on occupational health and safety management systems. She teaches in the occupational safety and health degree program at Illinois State University and is a recognized expert in management systems, risk assessments, incident investigation and regulatory compliance.

Attendees also agree to adhere to ASSP’s Code of Professional Conduct. ASSP reserves the right to remove attendees not behaving consistent with the Code of Conduct.

Cancellation Policy

  • We will grant full refunds to those who submit written requests within 10 business days of the start date of the course by sending an email to customerservice@assp.org.
  • Learners who register but do not attend their course, or who attempt to cancel after the deadline, will not receive a refund.
  • If learning resources such as standards or videos are included in the registration price of your course and you access those resources using your ASSP My Learning account prior to the course’s start date, you will be ineligible for a refund.
  • We charge a $25 processing fee for substitutions.
  • Submit substitutions in writing within 10 business days of the start date of the course by sending an email to customerservice@assp.org. If pricing for the new attendee changes the total cost of attending the event, we will charge or refund you the difference.
  • We reserve the right to cancel any course at any time and to substitute faculty.
  • If, for any reason, we must cancel a course or event, liability is limited solely to the registration fees paid.
  • We are not responsible for other expenses incurred, including travel and accommodation fees for in-person courses.
